How to Do Self-Hypnosis

I’m just wondering how it feels to be hypnotized, haven’t you? This would seem at first to be relaxing. Has the idea of self hypnosis ever crossed your mind? When you are hypnotizing yourself, it is called self-hypnosis. This means there are no fancy doctor’s visits and no expensive bills to pay. Some people like to perform self-hypnosis just for fun! First go to a place where you have privacy and you will not be bothered. Where ever it takes place, you should be comfortable and able to relax. No distractions should be around you. This is very important.

Next you must clear the mind of everything but relaxing thoughts. Your job, money, family, and all other stresses can be included. Release them. Thinking about your dream vacation getaway or simply a waterfall can be soothing to your mind. Give yourself the opportunity to be totally enveloped by the moment. You might crave to have a small fan in the environment as a variety of white noise or maybe even a beneficial waterfall device to help you relax

When your mind slows and you are relaxed, you can concentrate on the tension escaping your body. Imagine the tension as knots of stress seeping out through different areas of your body and vanishing into thin air. Start with your toes and work your way up to your legs, midsection, back, hands, fingers, neck, and head. You should have a feeling of absolute relaxation.

Continue to practice deep breathing to keep yourself relaxed. As you are slowly and deeply breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth, you will need to make sure that your eyes are closed. Your body must be approximately completely calm at this position.

View walking slowly into a wondeful body of clear water. Imagine this is going on while you are stepping down ten gorgeous steps. Once you get down midway, your are going to start stepping into the water. Make sure that the exercise is enjoyable, so that you feel relaxed. See the numbers as vividly as you can in your mind while you step lower. For paradigm, you will initiate with ten and conclusion at one. You will be completely drowned into the water at last step.

At this point, you are going to be ready to convince yourself of whatever it is you are trying to achieve. Imagine swimming toward boxes when you are trying to meet your goals and convince yourself with the positive influence of the boxes. Linger in the stream as long as you feel is indispensable, but 30 minutes to an hour is generally excellent enough to attain what you crave.

When you are finished, imagine yourself either walking back up the steps or opening a door that leads back to your life. During the whole routine think positively. You do not want this to be a bad experience. Make sure that you bring yourself “back” very slowly, possibly over a period of five to ten minutes, depending on how relaxed you are.

This process will probably take a few times for you to master, however, remember that practicing it will make you perfect. Self-hypnosis can be effective for losing weight, quitting smoking or even to improve your self esteem.

Definition of Hypnotherapy.

Despite a much wider acceptance these days, hypnotherapy still fights with misconceptions and misunderstandings. Let’s take a look at what a Plymouth hypnotherapist does and how they work.

Every day we slip into brief trances while watching T.V., or reading, in which our emotions, and senses are engaged to the point it seems that an imaginary world is real.  The further engrossed in the story you become, the more your worries fade away, and the story is all you are concentrating on – you then become susceptible to the positive images your therapist is providing.

Some clients go into trance deeply even in the first session, whilst others only experience a light trance. However, in hypnosis, it doesn’t matter whether you are in a light or deep trance, either one can be effective.  The experience really is enjoyable.

For hypnosis to be effective, it is very important you trust the therapist you are working with, and to feel comfortable with them, you are always in charge at all times during hypnosis. You may hinder the success of your session if you don’t feel comfortable around your Plymouth hypnotherapist. This is why it is crucial to find someone you trust.

Losing control is a common concern with hypnosis. This is not true; they remain in complete control throughout. They cannot be made to do anything against their will (unfortunately this is probably because of the misconception of stage hypnosis). There is no way that a person could be coerced into saying or doing something that they do not wish to do, or get stuck in a state of hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy is a therapy that uses hypnosis to help cure a wide variety of negative behaviors including stress, anxiety, phobias, panic, over-eating, binge drinking, lack of confidence, sports performance, irritable bowel syndrome, fear of examinations, and smoking.  It can also help with relationship difficulties, natural birthing and much, much more.

The fact is hypnotherapy is a very relaxing and pleasant experience that many people enjoy. Some people can really look forward to a session with a Plymouth hypnotherapist, unlike a trip to the dentist!

Hypnosis Can Help Mental Disorders

by Gary Pearson

Hypnosis is beneficial for a myriad of conditions, problems, addictions and for self-improvement purposes. Some studies suggest that hypnosis can help mental disorders, ranging from depression, anxiety and certain phobias to panic, schizophrenia and psychosis and other mental and psychological problems.

Reticent memories are recovered in the patients of mental problem with the help of hypnosis and this is very helpful. Normal behavior of people changes when they subconsciously suppress painful memories of trauma and pain which can lead to mental disorder. With the help of hypnosis the patient is able to remember the suppressed memories which could have been the cause of the mental problem they are suffering from.

For example, during the First and Second World Wars, soldiers developed mental health disorders, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, due to their experiences. Some doctors used hypnosis to help these soldiers remember and then relive these memories in order to get rid of built-up emotional tension. Consequently, many soldiers were able to recover their mental health.

It has to be understood by patients that through the accidental suggestions of the doctors there are chances of developing false memories. Thus hypnosis is considered to be a highly questionable and debatable form of therapy.

Hypnosis cures patients in different ways one such being the ability to remove all pain associated with the disorder. This is done by calming down the patients who have been highly affected. A complete feeling of calmness and intense relaxation and feeling of well being are associated with the process of hypnosis. What patients do is that they become aware of their thoughts and thus change their attitude and acquire new methods of dealing with different problems, and thus ultimately become relieved of their anxiety, stress and depression.

Nowadays many doctors and professional see the benefits of this method to help cure mental disorders and thus are accepting this technique.

Hypnotherapy’s Many Uses

When I first started to gain interest in the field of hypnotherapy, and how I could use it personally for self improvement, I did not realize how extensively hypnosis could not only help mold and improve the human mind, but also how many applications outside of pure “self improvement” it actually had.

The first thing that led me to self hypnosis was the fact that I wanted to not only lose a few pounds, but also get out of the funk that my mind seemed to be in from months of eating whatever I wanted. I’m normally a fairly healthy eater, but for some reason the only thing I had wanted for the longest time was deep fried foods and salty fatty snacks.

I needed something to not only dig me out of the weight gain I had endured, but also something more lasting, something that could help me get my mind back where it needed to be for long lasting success. I found hypnotherapy as the best solution while doing research, and began to listed to CD’s that induced self hypnosis at night before I went to bed, in a deeply relaxed states.

And guess what? It worked! It worked from the very first time I tried it. The very next day I noticed my appetite was smaller and it was very easy to pass on the fattening foods that normally I couldn’t resist. Not only that, but I actually really wanted to work out. I had a genuine desire to do so, one that I knew came from somewhere deep in my conscience that was buried and somehow released through listening to self hypnosis CD’s the night before.

It not only worked the first time, but continued to work, and I ended up losing the ten pounds or so that had piled on over the winter of gluttony. Hence, this was my window into the powers of suggestion, and I wanted to learn more about the applications that hypnotherapy had.

What I found was that it went far beyond the typical programs that everyone hears about like quitting smoking and weight loss.

There was self hypnosis, and professional hypnosis, for just about every human shortcoming you could think about. There are even body morphing hypnosis techniques that are supposed to subliminally encourage certain parts of your body to either expand (an example here would be breast enlargement), or shrink (say losing weight in a certain area).

Hypnotherapy has been used to help individuals with their sex lives, to help them gain self confidence before public speaking or other stressful events, and it has even helped people to attract others to them more readily in the dating arena.

It can help people stop dangerous habits, such as drinking alcohol too often (there are programs for alcoholics and drug addicts for example), and of course the most infamous use of hypnosis is probably to quit smoking.

Many people have raved about how good hypnosis programs, including self hypnosis programs, has helped them to kick this life threatening habit for good, and even to despise the smell and taste of cigarettes.

It’s also well known that hypnosis and the power of the subconscious mind can make people behave bizarrely, say act like a dog, or like they are trying to avoid someone they don’t want to talk to in public, as you may have seen demonstrations of in comic/hypnosis demonstrations before.

If it can make you behave any way it wants to, imagine what it can do for you in your life with something that you just can’t seem to do completely on your own?

As a matter of fact, hypnotherapy is now being used to help women deliver without pain, and without the pain relieving injection called an epidural. It is supposed to help induce a relaxed state where pain is not really an issue, and is gaining popularity among those who choose to go the “natural” route.

Hypnosis is often used in criminal cases, as a means for victims or witnesses to recall events or people surrounding a wrongdoing, although it’s admissibility in court is still a grey area.

Some question whether a person remembers what really happened or a skewed version of it, or what they want to believe happened, so it’s still controversial.

In short, I could go on and on about the various uses of both professional and self hypnosis, but I think you get the idea that virtually everything people need help with or just need to be nudged in the right direction is something that hypnotherapy can help with.

I think over the next decade you’re going to see hypnosis’ practical applications expand dramatically as our understanding of the human mind gets more sophisticated.
